ABOUT MY ART

For me, art is not merely to be seen, but to be experienced and questioned. I believe a single, powerful image can spark awareness and inspire meaningful dialogue. My aim is for my work to serve as a catalyst for reflection—inviting viewers to look beyond the surface and consider the deeper connections between nature, humanity, and the structures that shape our lives.

MY BIO

Artist | Graphic Designer | Entrepreneur

Annelies Veeze is a communication designer and self-taught visual artist based in Haarlem, the Netherlands. After completing VWO-B secondary education, she began her career in the advertising industry, gaining practical experience before founding her own business in 1988. Her professional background encompasses creative thinking, concept development, and visual design, evolving from traditional print media to digital platforms such as websites and online shops.

Veeze primarily serves mid-sized businesses in her communication work, bridging the gap between in-house capabilities and large agencies. As an artist, she works in an abstract and engaged style, often addressing themes inspired by current events, politics, and the influence of (social) media. Her work explores concepts such as charisma, respect, loyalty, resilience, and well-being.

Her artistic practice is characterized by experimentation with a wide range of materials, surfaces, and techniques. Drawing inspiration from everyday life, Veeze’s work is driven by admiration and a sense of wonder, often containing underlying layers of meaning that invite reflection.

In recent years, she has increasingly shifted her focus toward her art practice, dedicating as much time and energy as possible to her creative work alongside her ongoing communication business.

Artist statement

Making art, for me, is an act of inquiry and discovery. Each piece begins with a question—about society, nature, or the hidden tensions that shape our daily lives. I approach my work as a form of visual journalism: not to provide answers, but to reveal, challenge, and invite reflection.

Experimentation is at the heart of my process. I enjoy combining techniques and materials, searching for unexpected ways to translate my ideas into visual form. I work with cardboard, wood, and packaging—materials that already carry traces of time—allowing their imperfections and histories to guide the direction of the work. Through layering, deconstructing, and reassembling, I build compositions that balance abstraction with meaning. Architectural forms, rhythm, and order provide a structure, but I let intuition and curiosity lead the way.

I am always seeking the right tone—finding methods to make the message both intriguing and accessible, so that viewers are drawn in and encouraged to reflect. Themes of power, ecology, and human connection run through my practice, but I am most interested in the spaces between—where systems overlap, where nature and society intersect, where unseen networks operate.

Ultimately, my process is both reflective and open-ended. I want my work to slow viewers down, to create space for dialogue and contemplation—inviting others to look closer, question, and connect.
